Timber vertical sliding sash window replacements incorporating ultra-thin handmade double glazing.

For this project, our client sought the benefits of modern, ultra-thin energy efficient double glazed units, within a brief that restored correct historic mould detailing whilst keeping the fine lines of the Georgian, early Victorian period. Particular attention was given to maintaining the 30mm central meeting rails. This was achieved by carefully slotting the glazing profile into a groove – the existing box frames were retained and refurbished with the addition of beads with brush seals.

The sliding sashes to the front facade had outer panes consisting of ultra-thin handmade glass with surface imperfections, recreating the effect of cylinder glass with a toughened inner pane. To the rear of the property, new box frames and sliding sash windows were scaled up, with double glazed units replacing previous modern units.

We submitted drawings and liaised with local building control and the conservation officer on behalf of our client.
